    Responsibilities

     

    We are looking for an energetic engineering technician to support fuel processing lab test and development activities in our Technology group.

     

    The engineering technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of test stands and instrumentation in the Fuel Processing Lab, and performing tests as directed by the supervisor.

    • Collects fuel samples and analyzes samples by GC (gas chromatography);
    • Conducts laboratory experiments for the evaluation of fuel processing catalysts;
    • Maintains reactors and heaters to ensure smooth operation;
    • Loads and unloads samples in reactors for test and integratation;
    • Maintains records of experimental conditions and changes;
    • Communicates to supervisor progress and key observations weekly or as needed;
    • Collects, reduces, and analyzes test data using MS Excel;
    • Keeps the work environment clean and safe, in compliance with FCE EHS policy;
    • Conducts experiments on other fuel process activities as assigned;
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    Education and Qualifications:

     

    High School degree or GED with minimum of 3 years working in commercial laboratory environment is required (Direct FCE manufacturing experience will be considered); will consider candidates with an Associate’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related Science/Engineering discipline and 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.

     

    Special Skills:

    • Demonstrable understanding of the properties of flammable gases
    • Must be comfortable working with flammable gases
    • Operate GC (gas chromatography)
    • Knowledge of laboratory methods and tools
    • Demonstrable mechanical skills
    • Able to operate well outside the range of established procedures, and identify new potentially repeatable processes for which procedures need to be created
    • Able to work as a team player, exercise judgment, use technical expertise, and incorporate other entities such as EH&S or facilities as required.
    • Microsoft office skills.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

    • Requires the ability to work in a laboratory environment, standing at a work station using laboratory equipment
    • Must be able to move from area to area or room to room during testing
    • Be able to run experiments on laboratory equipment described in the job scope, including but not limited to working around laboratory equipment and chemicals, working with both hands simultaneously, use a high level of visual acuity to run tests and read test results
    • Able to wear required personal protective equipment in laboratory areas as required, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, clothing or gloves that provide appropriate protection
    • Sedentary work includes writing documentation and working at a computer, utilizing a keyboard and mouse
    • Able to repeatedly lift up to 30 pounds without assistance; and occasionally lift and move items weighting up to 50 pounds with assistance
