Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a full-time technician to support fuel cell component testing and analysis activities within the Technology group in Danbury, CT.

 

Under the direction of a scientist or engineer, the Research Technician:  

  • Performs fuel cell stack component collection and preparation for analytical laboratory testing;
  • Performs metallographic sample preparation (cutting, mounting, polishing) and basic microscopy;
  • Assists in analytical lab processes including both wet chemistry and physical property testing;
  • Assists in developing methods and procedures for cell component post-test analysis;
  • Accurately documents ongoing tests and experiments as directed;
  • Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment according to schedule;
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with internal and external customers;
  • Accurately collects and compiles data as directed;
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications:

 

High School or GED with minimum of one year of experience working in a chemical lab or production environment. Direct FCE manufacturing experience will be considered OR Associate’s Degree in related Science/Engineering Discipline, or trade school.

 

Required Experience:  

 

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Working with cross-section, sample preparation
  • Possesses a good understanding of basic wet chemistry
  • Working as a hands-on, team player, displays the ability to learn new, analytical techniques
  • Possesses working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Desired Experience:

  • Analytical lab skills including wet chemistry and physical characterization techniques
  • Universal tensile/compression testing
  • An understanding of mechanical concepts and equipment

Work Environment/Working Conditions:

 

This position involves working indoors at various chemical/laboratory work stations. This position requires physical movement between separated rooms within the same building and requires working at a desk for computer related work. Physical requirements also include:

  • Able to perform data entry, data gathering and report generation on a computer
  • Able to work in an upright position at a chemical work station/with chemical processing equipment
  • Able to move independently from one laboratory area to another on concrete flooring for up to 8 hours per day with defined break periods
  • Able to repeatedly lift used fuel cell components weighing 30lbs and occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance
  • Able to perform repetitive motion tasks with full range of motion with both hands/arms, including circular, up and down, back and forth, side to side and above shoulder height
  • Able to perform fine hand motor skills to work with and handle chemical samples and measure powders
  • Able to work in laboratory environment around chemicals, wearing approved personal protective equipment
  • Able to qualify for and wear an approved respirator throughout the course of employment and as required to meet safety protocol
  • Ability to distinguish color
