We are currently seeking two (2) highly motivated, forward-thinking engineering professionals to join our fuel cell module and components groups.


The fuel cell module is the heart of our power plants and the key product of our manufacturing plant.  The module encloses and integrates the fuel cell stacks and includes all the systems and components required to maintain and operate the fuel cell stacks.  The fuel cell module also provides all the key electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and control interfaces with the balance of plant systems.


The fuel cell stacks integrate the fuel cell components and are the means by which we scale-up our key fuel cell technology.  The fuel cell stacks serve to maintain electrical, thermal and mechanical conditions for the fuel cell components, which ensure life and performance targets are achieved and maintained at the desired scale.  The fuel cell stacks also include all key electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and control interfaces by which they are integrated into our fuel cell modules.

  • Identifies components’ functional requirements through testing trials and cross-department collaboration;
  • Designs fuel cell components and assemblies using standard analytical techniques and calculations, solid modeling, testing and current and legacy product performance data;
  • Optimizes designs, through collaboration with members of the Technology department, FCE testing and/or analytics specialists, component suppliers and FCE manufacturing;
  • Prepares and presents reports of findings and works with designers to generate design drawings and related documentation;
  • Validates designs through manufacturing trials (coordinated with FCE manufacturing groups and suppliers) and operational performance (coordinated with FCE operations and technology development groups);
  • Champions fuel cell components engineering changes through FCE’s engineering change process;
  • Serves as key facilitator between FCE’s manufacturing and technology development teams to ensure smooth transitions to new designs and improve manufacturability of existing designs;
  • Performs other projects and duties, as assigned


Education:   BS in Chemical or Mechanical or related Engineering discipline. MS Preferred.


Experience:  A minimum of 5 years of relevant commercial work experience is required.


Special Skills:

  • Mechanical product development experience including 3D modeling; Autodesk inventor experience preferred
  • Experience interfacing with internal and external customers and/or suppliers
  • Experience applying thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and/or heat transfer principles to design integrated mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated testing, validation and product launch experience
  • Root cause investigation experience
  • Preferred supplemental experience
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude with hands on Experience preferred
  • Statistical knowledge (e.g. Six Sigma, DoE, Weibull) & experience
  • 3D modeling, FEA and/or CFD experience
  • FMEA, APQP, DFSS, electrochemistry experience are all pluses

 Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Requires the ability to be present in a laboratory and manufacturing environment, and stand at a work station while utilizing laboratory equipment.
  • Must be able to move from area to area or room to room during testing.
  • Be able to run or review experiments on laboratory equipment described in the job scope, including but not limited to working around laboratory equipment and chemicals, working with both hands simultaneously, use a high level of visual acuity to run tests and read test results
  • Able to visually distinguish colors
  • Able to climb 15 foot ladders on occasion
  • Able to wear required personal protective equipment in laboratory, manufacturing or field areas as required, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, clothing or gloves that provide appropriate protection
  • Sedentary work includes writing documentation and working at a computer, utilizing a keyboard and mouse
  • Possible domestic and international travel.
