We are currently seeking a highly motivated, forward-thinking energy technology enthusiast to join the Advanced Technology Group.  This individual will be responsible for leading the design, evaluation, and general development of our proprietary equipment for power generation, conversion, storage, and commercialization for our Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) power plants.


The candidate will also be responsible for supporting traditional electrical engineering tasks needed for the design, documentation, and integration of electrical equipment such as pumps, blowers, heaters, and instrumentation as required for the development of our new carbon capture demonstration plant.


  • Leads the electrical design of a MW-scale Fuel Cell Carbon Capture power plant.
  • Designs and/or specifies new power systems for both Solid Oxide and Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell projects, specifically inverters and DC-DC power electronics.
  • Evaluates and determines benefits and trade-offs of various grid-tie DC-AC power conditioning topologies.
  • Selects power and control components and other electrical equipment, including cable sizes, based on analysis of specifications and system requirements.
  • Responsible for design and drawing approval of outdoor skid-mounted power and control cabinets.
  • Supports development of instrument lists derived from P&ID drawings.
  • Develops and approves electrical 1-line and 3-line drawings, and schematics.
  • Interacts with vendors to find components suitable to meet system requirements and address issues such as reliability, packaging, cooling, and power consumption.
  • Conducts experimental tests and evaluates results as required to assist with component selection.
  • Completes documentation and specifications for all aspects of the PCU and plant control system, include Bill of Materials management.
  • Other duties as required for management of electrical designs and technical support across multiple contracts.


Education:    BSEE degree required, BSEE & BSME, or advanced EE degree preferred.


Experience:   A minimum of 8 years of experience with power systems, electrical drawings, power generation, industrial systems, or related work in a formal engineering environment is required.

  • Arc Flash Safety and Calculations
  • Instrument Layout & Details
  • Logic Diagrams
  • Instrument Loop Diagrams
  • Industrial Data Protocols (Modbus TCP & RTU, Ethernet)
  • Utility Grid Interface Study
  • Electrical Equipment Selection and Review of Vendor Data
  • Electrical Equipment Bid Packages
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions


  • Walking/standing/working in an office, lab, fabrication area, or designated construction site environment, wearing required personal protective equipment as designated.
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs., utilizing both hands simultaneously, utilizing hand tools and test equipment.
  • Other physical requirements (pushing, pulling, and bending) may be required to perform inspections, make connections, take photographs, or access installed equipment.
  • Ability to remain on feet and move from area to area for a period of up to eight (8) hours with standard breaks.
  • Ability to distinguish color
  • Travel – occasional domestic travel (1 week duration) to site installations
