We are searching for a highly motivated, forward-thinking energy technology enthusiast with experience in the energy industry to join the Module Engineering group of FuelCell Energy where you will be responsible for developing and optimizing commercial fuel cell and module components and systems.

 

Responsibilities

 

The Module Engineering team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer who will be responsible for developing complex models and manufacturing drawings for our commercial fuel cell components and assemblies.  The Senior Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the following:

  • Creates or modifies component and assembly models under the direction of product development engineers using Autodesk Inventor software.
  • Creates or modifies manufacturing drawings in conjunction with product development engineers using Autodesk Inventor software.
  • Archives drawings and models using Autodesk Vault software.
  • Supports the product development design process by providing input to product development engineer presentations, reports and documentation.
  • Completes tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Interfaces with internal FCE organizations or external component suppliers to achieve robust design solutions which are optimized for production and cost.
  • Creates build-to-print drawings using ANSI Y14.5 dimension standards.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Education:   High School or GED and CAD certification minimum.  AS degree preferred.

 

Experience:  5-plus years of relevant commercial work experience with a minimum of 2 years using Autodesk Inventor is required.

 

Special Skills:

  • Have a high level of expertise in design and drafting using Autodesk Inventor
  • Experience designing sheet metal, structural steel, welded and machined components is a plus.
  • Able to effectively communicate design element details with the Module Engineering team as well as with internal customers and suppliers.
  • Be able to professionally manage critical feedback on work from multiple sources.
  • Manage changes in priority in a fast paced environment.
  • Be detailed oriented self-starter capable of working with a diverse team of engineers and technical professionals.

 Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work includes writing documentation and working at a computer, utilizing a keyboard and mouse
  • Able to visually distinguish colors
  • Able to wear required personal protective equipment in laboratory, manufacturing or field areas as required, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, clothing or gloves that provide appropriate protection
  • Occasional travel between Torrington and Danbury locations.
