Responsibilities

 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, forward-thinking energy technology enthusiast to assist with testing and evaluation of our innovative technologies in a highly technical and growing industry.  Join our team and contribute to a brighter, cleaner energy future.

 

The Associate Test Engineer will be responsible for operating and testing our subscale fuel cell stacks to evaluate innovative technology and components. After training, the Test Engineer will operate the fuel cell test facility independently, perform required tasks, process test results, and present the findings. In addition, you will be a part of the on-call rotation to ensure continuous operation of fuel cell stacks and timely response to test facility outages. This position provides many learning opportunities and exposure to multiple areas in chemical engineering, materials science, and process control.

  • Executes a variety of tests on fuel cell stacks, following test protocol and operates test facilities.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve test procedures and assists with developing new test procedures.
  • Ensures quality of data by verifying instrumentation before tests, troubleshooting any abnormality, and working with supervisor and others to resolve issues, monitor and maintain calibration of gas chromatography (GC).
  • Reviews test data, analyzes and interprets results, shares key findings with the supervisor; prepares presentations of key observations and recommendations and reviews with technology manufacturing and engineering group.
  • Closely follows post-operation examination findings to compare with original test observations.
  • Must be available for on-call rotation to respond to alarms & outages in test facilities.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned to support activities and priorities within the Technology team.

 

Qualifications

 

Education:       Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.

 

Experience:  0 to 2 years’ experience in planning, execution of tests on chemical process and systems, preferably in fuel cells or batteries, and interpretation of results. Applicable academic experience will be considered.

 

Special Skills:

  • Demonstrable understanding of chemical engineering processes, chemical process control, chemical reaction, thermodynamics.
  • Knowledge and experience of electrochemistry or fuel cell/battery is a plus but not necessary.
  • Experience with chemical process equipment (heaters, heat exchangers, valves, flow meters) and gas chromatography desired.
  • Proficient in the use of software such as Microsoft excel, word and PowerPoint, data interpretation and analysis. Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people within and outside of the company
  • Must have strong presentation skills
  • Must be a team player

Working Environment/Working Conditions:

 

This position is located indoors. This position requires physical movement between separated rooms within the same building in various chemical/laboratory test station as well as working at a desk for computer related work. Physical requirements also include the ability to:

  • Test facility environment and office environment
  • No abnormal strain other than normal standing (in the test facility) or sitting (in the office or at the facility)
  • Occasional work with wrenches as needed to connect or remove tube fittings
  • Ability to remain on feet and move from area to area within the test facility area
  • Computer work for extended periods of time is also requied.
  • Ability to distinguish color
