Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, forward-thinking Electro-chemical Engineering professional to join our Technology group in Danbury, CT where you will assume a key role in the design and development of advanced concepts, electrodes and process for high temperature carbonate fuel cells..

  • Participate in the design and development of new advanced concepts, electrodes, electrolyte and process for high temperature carbonate fuel cells.
  • Apply problem solving skills to develop new and innovative solutions to improve electrode performance, manufacturing process and reduce product cost.
  • Support development of materials specifications, ceramic slurry characterization and resolve component manufacturing issues.
  • Lead carbonate fuel cell material research: Lab-scale tape casting, evaluation, testing and optimization of electrodes and electrolyte systems.
  • Prepare detailed graduation plans for projects and report progress to management on weekly and monthly basis.
  • Review published literature and patents.
  • Organize and analyze data, design experiments and failure mode analysis, supervise and independently lead projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:       M.S. or Ph.D. Degree in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or Ceramic Engineering, or a related area.

 

Experience:    Minimum one year of experience in electrochemistry, chemistry, material science, battery, or corrosion characterization is desired.   Chemistry/chemical lab experience is required.

 

Ideal candidate will have / be:

  • Hands-on, team worker; required to work independently; comfortable working in a chemical lab environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrochemistry, corrosion, ceramic processing/characterization and high temperature materials, design of experiments and management.
  • Knowledge of electrochemical techniques (Cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance, current interruption test) and XRD, BET, SEM, microscopy, Rheology, and particle size analysis.
  • Computer knowledge: Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Power point and Microsoft project).
  • Must be able to interact in a professional manner with internal and external customers, work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to independently conceive, design and execute experiments; interact with manufacturing and technology teams, and supervise technicians.
  • Capable of communicating with all levels of the organization, and reporting results and updates to managers.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

 

Work is in lab environment including handling ceramic powder and chemicals:

  • Standing or moving from area to area for extended periods for time on concrete floor.
  • Periodic bending, reaching, working with both hands and arms in full range of motion, climbing ladders, and carrying items in excess of 25 lbs.(with assistance)
  • Wearing of assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety gloves, hard hats, safety shoes and other PPE as assigned
  • Moving between separate buildings to attend meetings.
  • Computer work for extended periods of time is also required.
  • Local travel to other CT locations may be required.
